Living Healthy with the Seasons - Spring

Updated: Jun 24, 2022

Cold and dreary one day. Warm and sunny the next. Followed by wind and rain the next. This is spring. Tumultuous and variable while slowly, yet persistently, awakening us out of our winter slumber and eventually delivering us into the fiery hands of summer.

The downward energy which began in autumn and brought us deeper into ourselves, our dreams, and the quiet of winter, is now replaced with a surging burst upward and outward. Parks are filled with people and pets. Trees are full of buds, blossoms, and baby leaves. It gets lighter earlier and stays lighter later. Life is expanding all around us.

Spring is the time of execution. It's time to bring the ideas and dreams of winter out of hibernation to greet the world. If you were able to rest and replenish your chi this winter, you are probably ready to spring forward in a creative, focused way.

Spring corresponds to the Wood Element. Wood is ruled by the Liver and Gall Bladder, the color is green, the sound is shout, and the taste is bitter.

According to the Chinese Clock, the high time of day for the Gall Bladder is 11 pm – 1 am and for the and 1 am – 3 am for the Liver. Since the Gall Bladder is coined the ‘decision maker’ being asleep by 11 pm can help ease tough choices.

The associated emotion is anger. Stifled vision and creativity results in frustration, agitation and chi constraint. Chi constraint is undesirable because it brings movement to a halt, preventing the free flow of energy which feeds not only the organs, but the mind and spirit. When the chi is able to be expressed without blocks, a smooth flow of energy will bring ease to thoughts and feelings.

Ask yourself: What plans and ambitions am I ready to unleash? Then, focus and allow them to come to fruition!

If you are feeling stuck instead of motivated this spring, or are experiencing headaches, frustration or hopelessness, it may be time to come in for your seasonal 'Acupuncture Tune-Up'.
